EV charging at your property: what to resolve before investing

Εννοιολογική εικονογράφηση βιώσιμης κινητικότητας

Guests arriving in an electric car need clear information before they travel. They want to know whether they can charge at the property, when the space is available and how payment works. Buying equipment is one part of the service. Everyday operations deserve just as much planning.

Start with demand

Record how many guests ask about charging, how long they stay and when they use their vehicles. Review nearby public alternatives and the time needed to reach them. A charger appearing on a map does not guarantee that it will be available when a guest needs it.

Eight decisions before buying

  • Who will use the facility, overnight guests only or passing drivers as well.
  • What power and connection are appropriate, following an engineer’s assessment.
  • Where the charging space will support access and daily operations.
  • How reservations work and what happens when a vehicle remains in the space.
  • How prices, terms and payment methods are explained before use.
  • Who maintains the equipment and handles faults reported by guests.
  • What alternative is offered when charging at the property is unavailable.
  • How usage, costs and support requests will be monitored.

Information should arrive before the guest

Include connector details, access restrictions, instructions and a contact number on your website and in the message sent before arrival. Reception needs a short service procedure that every shift can follow.

Measure what helps the next decision

Start with a small set of measures: charging requests, sessions, hours of unavailability, revenue and operating expenses. Add guest feedback. Decisions about expansion can then reflect actual use and business needs.

These questions are a Tourism Strategy planning framework. The technical solution and installation requirements need to be assessed for the individual property.
